That G*-Side Joe Smear is ‘Unfair’

Joe and Joseph are overused first names thanks to their compelling alliterations, but who might G-Side Joe be, exactly? I have asked myself this question for exactly one week.

I hazarded a guess and found the slogan fitting for the long-dead Soviet tyrant Joseph Stalin and the lesser-known Joseph Mengele, a Nazi doctor who committed experimental atrocities on human subjects. Even with the amount of trouble in our present world, I still came short. 🤭

I first encountered the term in 2021 when Turkish supporters used it to deride Biden as being too quick to use the word genocide when he declared the 1915–16 massacres and displacement of the Armenians by the Ottoman Turks as so.

We saw the term revived on social media after Biden expressed extreme skepticism about Hamas’ 🥷 ability to perform a credible head count.

And how dare we forget the half-witted monikers thought up by the drooling mobs in MAGA? A group that imagines the freedom of speech as equating to the literal regurgitation of offal from ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’ on all public messaging boards.

All in all the coinage seems unfair because of what it materially asserts. I would go for ‘lobbied spineless’, but who am I kidding, that’s no fun at all and in fact, the former seems to have stuck.

How did we even get here? Our political landscape will never be the same.
