The above-competing philosophies are what shaped the collapse of the Roman empire — this perceived model of an almost perfectly organized republic, where the elements of democracy, aristocracy, and dictatorship were organically combined to maintain ‘stability’.
The empire would collapse, not by invasion, but by disintegration thanks to the outburst of self-determination that broke through the veneer of this perfectly orchestrated model of a civilization.
