I must admit that I am more fascinated by Appalachian poverty than I am by extreme wealth. I’ve spent my entire adult life driving up to my family’s little place in the Adirondacks, taking detours here and there to take a fresh peak at how much things don’t change in Appalachia.

Blue-collar work in much of white America is very much tolerated right now. Most in this demographic were thrust into the sector out of a sheer need for cold hard cash, however, that would not have been their kind of job posting just a few short years ago in good old Murica.

The average blue-collar white guy is likely an eastern European immigrant or a natural-born citizen from a couple of generations of working-class dysfunction. So you’ve got a group of people with very different core values and upbringings who don’t fit into the modern social order.

Enter JD Vance, the one and only hillbilly background individual in the Trump administration who happened to fit right in with the squad of billionaire jerks. Apart from the eyeliner and a pair of pants…
