Disclaimer: This article is not meant for reading by Christian believers who should now be clicking off — please and thanks, Merry Christmas! I also elected to use a ‘g’ for ‘G’ because it makes all the difference.

It’s that time of the year again when Christians are implored to retell the blockbuster story of Mary’s immaculate conception to 21st-century Westerners through allusion, allegory, and metaphors that ancient mid-easterners would quite frankly have a far much easier time grappling with.

How many gods were born by human women? How many children of god were born by human women? How are Christians born? The efforts to explain away the questions that arise from the reading of passages that relate the trivial story of how Jesus comes to be, have been a brazen waste of wisdom.

The tangled tapestry woven to befuddle logic is riddled with brightly colored strays that when pulled, threaten to unravel the entire thing. Therefore, if a woman claims immaculate conception today, she will be strictly disallowed from pulling at any of the brightly colored strays.

I’ve been accused of being a literalist which I don’t care to deny because it’s the symbolism of it all that I find most disturbing. The objectification of the person Jesus introduces a level of religious callousness that seems to amplify each year the story is told from scratch.

His birth in squalor and subsequent murder have been made invariable causes for celebration by the people who now view these events as affirmations of their salvation.
